Throwing a ripped up back pack over her shoulder, Luna finally made it out of the abandoned apartment she had taking refuge in the night before. Her black hair was still slightly messy from sleep.
Luna walked slow down her steps, squinting as her eye adjusted to the light. The city was calm with people slowly coming in and out of stores enjoying their day, and the sun burned down relentlessly with its mid-day heat. Even though the city had a plethora of people the sidewalks weren't completely full of people which was strange, but a relief to Luna. She had been in the city for a little over a week now being careful to stay under the radar of mind full humans who weren't fond of her kinds’ existence. As well as making sure there was no one purposely looking for gifteds. Ever since the discovery of gifteds most humans were either one of four things: they didn't care about us, they were frightful of us, like one is of a large animal, they wanted us extinct, or they wanted us to be used for government purposes. She shook her head at the thought it was as if our powers made us the perfect targets.
Glancing around she noticed she was coming up on the edge of the city. Good, she thought. At taking notice to that she ducked into the next alley way she passed,
and scaled up the fire escape all the way to the roof top. On the top of the building she found herself on was directly next to the woods which made for a beautiful view. The trees lightly blew in the wind, and you could see the edge of a lake in the distance. She took a seat on the roof top and began to rummage through her back pack taking out a water bottle. She took a couple sips out of it quenching her thirst then placed it back in her bag with its other contents. The bag, which she had cleaned when found it by a trash can seemingly thrown away for how ragged it had become, contained all of her belongings including her jacket which was too hot to wear that day. Funny how one man's trash is another man's treasure, she thought or at least a helpful item until it falls apart completely. She sighed as she scanned her surroundings making sure she wasn’t being watched.
The edge of the city had fewer people living there making her actions less suspicious. I probably look like a curious kid more than anything. She laughed at the thought it. Laying down on the roof top she gazed up at the sky watching the clouds float on by, slightly relaxing as she did. A bitter smile curved on her lips at her actions. It had been a long time since she could completely relax in the open, for her own safety she needed to be on edge and aware of her surroundings at all times. One slip up in her actions could cost her, her life. As she lay there thinking the wind started to blow easing off the heat of the afternoon sun that was beating down on the cityscape.
