Hello all, I'm Moon!
I found the Art-Play group while browsing DA at work last week and I've been dancing around the idea of getting involved in something like this. Naturally, I eventually decided to take the plunge. In any case, here's a little bit about my RP history.
I started text role-playing when I was about 12. This was back when AOL (America Online for you youngin's) was really popular and chat rooms were the big thing. I started off with your basic "pool party" chat rooms, launching off cheesy one liners, but eventually got into more complex role plays and fan role plays (my trade mark fan-character personalities Rogue/Gambit/ Storm from X-men). I maintained this hobby throughout high school. By this time AOL had faded out and I found myself haunting discussion forums instead. I became involved with another RP forum ( www.animeleague.net ) where I've been at on and off for the last, 12 or so years now. Essentially, I am an RP addict. I rarely go a few days without some sort of post going up.
Now, as for my art, I am mostly self taught. I've been doodling for as long as I can remember, but didn't start getting into the actual basics until the end of high school. I began looking up tutorials and buying art books (mostly anime centered ones), and learned most of my stuff from there. After high school though, I decided to try my hand at Studio Art, learned to paint, draw a straight line without a ruler, how to sculpt rock, and 2-d design, ect. Then... I took a break from all things art and joined the military. I continue to draw as a hobby, and will sometimes sign up for a college course or two when I can. My odd conglomerate of foundations has lent me a diverse set of skills, I'll admit, but they are no where near what I want them to be.
My strong points in art is that I can draw really, really well so long as I have a reference to go off of, and the time to perfect it. Because it takes me hours to produce even a line art that looks remotely descent. An example would be something like this in which I used a real photo reference: (click thumbnail for full img).
However, without a photo reference I'm still very weak - especially at sketching quickly, as you can see below:
So yeah. I'm hoping that combining my two passions will help me improve my art skills with time. So yeah... I think that's about it! I look forward to getting involved!
