"One's first step in wisdom is to question everything - and one's last is to come to terms with everything."
- Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1742 - 1799)
General Characteristics
Name: Aristaeus Adair
Other Names: Arista, Ari, Adair
Titles: Deye (2nd order)
Alternate Forms: Bipedal. He can take off the 'skin' that is his tail to reveal his real legs.
Personal Information
History: Arista originally worked as a sentinel for the royalty of his home planet, Adelard. There, after a dispute between the royal family members, the entire monarchy was split and he, like the other royal servants, was caught in the middle. Though he tried to remain neutral, he was eventually sucked into one side, which he fought for until the war ended. Then, after a raid on his planet (as well as several others), he was kidnapped and taken to a massive enclosure where he is now kept prisoner, along with thousands of other species.
Personality Summary: Solemn, honest, but very self-righteous, Arista's opinions are strong ones. He loves to debate, but when arguments go awry, he opts for pacifism nowadays. His biggest fear is being criticized for how he's changed after the war, so he avoids all other war veterans like the plague. Due to this, he also tends to seclude himself often, indulging in scholarly pursuits. His favorite place to be is the library, where he often teaches lectures, helps organize books, and generally lurks about. He wants to eventually leave the enclosure he's been trapped in and expand his knowledge, but since that isn't currently possible, he's taken to focusing on learning instead.
Personal Characteristics
Primary Objective: Escape the tanks, rise to fame as a scholar. Get away from persecutors after him for "war crimes".
Secondary Objectives: Perhaps make some friends. Get far away enough to avoid meeting anyone from the past ever again. Nurture young minds.
Desires: knowledge, solitude (sometimes), reuniting with family (if they're still alive).
Secrets: He actually committed treason at one point in the war because he was afraid. However, he returned to his original side after regretting his choice. Only two people know about this, and because of that, he is afraid they will blackmail him at some point. He was once addicted to a certain hepha seed with numbing properties, but he has since reformed.
Quirks: When he gets mad, his left eye starts to twitch. Oftentimes, when he's really focused, he'll blink really hard in a way that resembles squinting more than it does blinking. He suffers from insomnia and often reads the night away rather than sleeping, hence the baggy eyes. Because of excessive reading, he's also nearsighted.
Sexual Characteristics
Gender: Male
Orientation: Bisexual
Significant Other: deceased (died of untreated wound).
Mental Characteristics
Known Languages:
Lures: (What is your character drawn to?)
Savvies: Mathematics, the harpsichord, Adelardi history, a few languages, general biology
Ineptitudes: Sometimes simple things confuse him, because he tends to over-think. A lot.
Temperament: Phlegmatic
Hobbies: reading, finding isolated places to hang out, giving lectures, helping out at the library
Intellectual Characteristics
Logical-Mathematical: He can reason pretty well when it comes to hypothetical things, but when it comes to practical things, he over-thinks them to a point where the simple solution doesn't occur to him.
Spatial: He has trouble conjuring images in his mind because he isn't creative in that sense.
Linguistic: He's fluent in four languages, but has trouble learning any more. The ones he does know, however, he knows very well.
Bodily-Kinesthetic: His reflexes used to be fantastic, but with age, he's slowed down and is no longer the fighter he once was. He now suffers from a variety of tics that came as a result of his addiction to hepha seeds.
Musical: He is very good at identifying pitches and sight-reading music.
Interpersonal: Because of over-thinking, he sometimes comes off as awkward/distant, but to make up for that he acts extra-nice.
Intrapersonal: He's a little unsure about himself, and often feels lost, so he opts to bury himself in books to hide that unsettling feeling.
Existential: Though he doesn't believe in any particular deity, he does believe in different planes of existence, and often wonders if certain sensations come as a result of said planes intermingling.
Philosophical Characteristics
Morality: Currently, he is neutral. He does not believe that he is a good person because of his time in the war, but he also doesn't believe he's entirely bad. He also strongly believes in keeping his word, to the point where it gets a little ridiculous sometimes.
Perception: "Is the glass half-empty, or half-full?" ... "Well, it is, indeed, a glass..."
Spiritual Characteristics
Religion: Atheism.
Superstitions: He never sleeps facing up because his mother told him it would give him nightmares (he has tested it, and confirmed it), and he also never sleeps without his bedroom door being locked.
Virtues: Temperance, Diligence, Patience
Vices: Pride, Envy
Likes and Dislikes
Likes: Music, books, following politics, poetry, confident people, camping.
Dislikes: Too much socializing (he isn't a total loner, but too much socializing tires him out). Talking about the past, losing an argument, being thrown into arguments he doesn't want to enter, being unprepared, being doubted.
Social Characteristics
Emotional Stability: He can take some emotional abuse, but not as much as one would think given his stony demeanor.
Humor: Good wit always makes him chuckle. Wordplay in books also amuses him.
Reputation: Those who don't know about his past think of him as an upstanding citizen. Those who do either think of him as a badass, or a complete coward.
