Name: Vivian Otto Bergfalk
Nickname: Otto, Vivi
Age: Mid-Twenties
Gender: Male
Species: Troll
Nationality: Swedish
Height: 8'
Weight: 368 lbs
Orientation: Bisexual
Relationship Status: Taken
Occupation: Tailor
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Otto is most definitely an imposing figure to look at. Towering above everyone else, he's built like a house and that's no joke at his height. He dwarfs most people, and his posture has ended up a bit hunched because of his height. His skin is pale, but relatively free of blemishes, besides the odd small scar on his knuckles and slightly calloused fingertips.
His face is broad, with a significantly large nose and a fairly wide mouth. His ears are long, and droop downwards, ending in dull points. He has a gold loop in each ear, along with two studs in his right ear and two tag-like cuffs in the left. He generally leaves a scruffy, short mustache and goatee on his face. His hair is light blond, hanging down to his upper back just below his shoulder blades. He usually keeps it in a loose ponytail.
He's got long, claw-like nails, partly due to his species and partly because they help tremendously with fine needlework that requires dexterity with small objects his large fingers would normally be unable to manage. Along with this he's got a long taill with blond hair covering the end.
PERSONALITY
Otto is an incredibly laid-back person. He's almost always calm, and quick to make goofy jokes or remarks when appropriate or to lighten the mood. He's maybe a bit too laid-back at times, though, which can confuse or even frustrate some people who may want a less even-tempered reaction from him. However, he's very slow to anger, and it's almost equally slow for him to show actual excitement.
The easiest reaction to get from him is embarrassment and concern. He's easily embarrassed by his height, possible clumsiness, and any issues that may stem from that (even if they're more in his head than anything). On top of this he has great concerns over hurting people. Knowing his great strength he takes perhaps too many precautions with people he cares about. Despite any advantages his height and strength gives him, it's far more a source of insecurity for him than confidence.
Otto enjoys just about any form of entertainment, and rarely makes a fuss about such things. Though he does particularly enjoy ska, funk and reggae, and just about anything laid back. He has a soft spot for animated movies, and a bigger one for cheesy kids'/young adults' shows. He especially enjoys shows where the main character is some kind of monster or strange being trying to fit in.
PERSONAL HISTORY
Little is known about Otto's actual origins. When he was still a baby, he was found by a Swedish couple, bundled up, in a basket on a tree stump a few minutes outside the town where they lived. They took him in, and at the time he seemed relatively normal. It wasn't until they removed the blankets he was wrapped in that they were made aware of his more unusual features.
The couple, Adam and Irene Bergfalk, had two adopted daughters already, twins from China. They were being home schooled, so it was an easy decision to simply keep the child from leaving their property in order to avoid a scandal. Things went relatively smoothly at first--though the girls were two years older than him and prone to teasing, his very early childhood was without too much fuss. It wasn't until he was old enough to start proper schooling from his parents that things started to become difficult.
His adoptive parents weren't the most attentive or affectionate people. They both worked, and so they weren't around as much as they should have been. When they were home their interactions with Otto often involved reprimanding him for not doing something exactly right, or simply ignoring him. It only got worse as he got older; he couldn't seem to do anything right, and even when he did something he felt was worthy of praise they found some way to nitpick his accomplishment. He started to develop an interest in sewing and making clothes after seeing his mother repairing a shirt he'd ripped accidentally, and no matter what he said in his defense he was told that it wasn't fitting for a man to be doing such things.
As he was home schooled and they never let him into the small back yard during the day, he decided to pursue his interest in fashion despite what his parents thought of it. At 13 he'd started to realize that even though he felt terribly inadequate, he could at least try and do something right. Besides that, in his mind it was the perfect way to rebel against the often stifling desires his parents had for him. He spent many hours, alone in his room, trying to perfect his techniques of sewing and cutting fabric. By this point he was already remarkably tall, especially for his age, but as he'd never been around normal humans other than his family that didn't feel weird. His parents and sisters often remarked on his ears and his tail, and how that made him weird or freaky, but his insecurity over those didn't last very long.
When he was 16, one of his sisters taught him how to get past the parental blocks on their family computer, and for the first time in his life Otto could genuinely learn about the two things that had been occupying his mind for years; actual methods of sewing and making clothes, and why exactly he was so different from his family. Extensive searching eventually took him to a small, barely active forum meant for "fair folk." Though at the time his English was limited, he posted a thread asking about his features and what they meant. Through there he started conversations with a small group of fae who told him he was a troll, what that meant (at least as far as they knew), and how to use glamour to disguise himself. It wasn't long before his parents found out their kids were on the internet without permission, and upped the security, but by that point Otto had learned all he needed to know. For the time being, at least.
With time he managed to give himself a glamour, and he started to insist his parents let him go places other than the backyard. They refused for as long as they could, but by that point he'd had enough. He took what he could fit in a backpack, and simply left. It was a bit of a radical decision at the time, but he was old enough to realize that if he stayed any longer he'd never get out. He was lucky in some senses; though they never traveled his parents had passports for the whole family, and he was easily able to pass for older than sixteen. He ended up with a job moving heavy objects at a shipyard until he had enough money to pay for a boat ticket; he didn't care where he went as long as it was away from where he currently was. He got on a boat and ended up in North America, where hitchhiking landed him in Nevada by the time he was 18.
There weren't many job prospects for an eight foot Swede who still had trouble with English. The recruiter for an underground boxing ring was the first person to approach him directly about something he could get paid for; it was just a matter of learning some basic techniques and applying his undeniably impressive strength to them. He was out of his element at first, but as soon as he got a handle on how, when and where to punch he started to win matches... and never stopped. It was hard enough to bring a giant down, but when he was so strong it was just as hard to stand up to his blows. In the ring, he was taught never to hold back. It was as the heavyweight champion that he met David and Claudia, two of the other heavyweight boxers. They were engaged, but Otto ended up being invited into the relationship. This was kept secret, but it was some of the most exciting times of his life, even though the relationship didn't end up working out for him--though David and Claudia still ended up getting married.
Three years later, another boxer caught his attention. The redhead, two years his junior and barely tall enough to reach his elbow, had been attending his matches for quite some time. He chatted with the lightweight at the time known as "Billy Goat," but when he tried to ask the other fighter out, he was left in an empty locker room without so much as a 'no.' They saw each other a few times after that, and it was terribly awkward, but injury forced the younger fighter out of the ring entirely. It was almost two years before he saw that person again.
He'd wanted out of the boxing ring for some time, knowing full well it was dangerous and illegal. He had a contract, though, and it was only after that period of nearly two years that it would end. At which point it was meant to be renewed, but thanks to a loophole and his fists being strong negotiating points, he was able to get out of renewing it. He spent a few months wondering what to do with himself, trying to get a foothold in the business of making clothing, and sleeping in a homeless shelter before deciding to try to contact the former fighter he'd known as "Billy Goat." It was at this point, as they talked at a cafe, that it was revealed to him that "Billy" was in fact Jean, and that she'd only lived as a man at the time to avoid potential danger from the other fighters.
Otto wasn't particularly phased; it was far from the strangest thing he'd faced with regards to other people, given how 'unique' his previous partners had been. He asked Jean out once more, this time with the assurance he knew better who she was. Four months later he was living in Jean's apartment, helping the two get by with his passion for tailoring. It was later revealed to each what they were--slip-ups with glamour lead to Otto finding out she was a satyr, and Jean to finding out Otto was a troll. Neither minded, as it meant there were no worries of outliving the other. They continue to scrape by with the bare minimum needed to sustain themselves, and though their funds are as low as ever their relationship only grows stronger, along with his friendship with Jean's best friend, the nature spirit Elain, who enjoys bothering Otto as much as she does Jean even though she has a tougher time getting on his nerves.
