Full Name: Ruby Hoode
Alias/Pseudonym/Nickname: She is known almost exclusively as Red. She tends to get a bit snappy if people call her 'Ruby'.
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Originally: Red Riding Hood
Alignment: Resistance
Appearance:
Red is a slight young woman, with dark hair and dark grey eyes. On her face and chest are numerous white scars from claw and teeth marks. She wears and long red coat with a heavy hood, and rarely seems to take it off. A large axe is slung over one shoulder.
The woman doesn't appear to be very concerned with her appearance, and most of her clothes seem quite worn out and overused. She kinda needs to brush her hair more.
Persona: Red is a little bit...twitchy to say the least. Since the incident some years back she has an intense paranoia that people she meets are, in fact wolves in disguise. She has a serious, dedicated hatred of The Wolf, something than can make her rather reckless at times.
For the most parts she can be a little bit cold and caustic, often unrepentantly hostile towards other people. She can be astonishingly rude to people and seems to have no concern about causing offence. This tends to be less down to actual hostility and more over-zealousness regarding a task at hand.
This has positive parts too however, Red is extremely brave and very loyal towards the resistance. While she might not be the most friendly member, she would most certainly defend any of the others to the death against the Queen's forces.
Strengths:
-Red is very quick and agile, particularly with her boots equipped, and while she is certainly dwarfed by many monsters she can easily evade many with these skills. She has trained herself to have considerable athletic ability, and it shows.
-She grew up in and around Darkwood, and knows her way through the maze of narrow pathways and thick, twisted trees nearly as well as the animals. Red is never lost in the woods.
Weaknesses:
- Red is rather...unstable. She is relentlessly paranoid and appears permanently on the verge of doing something insane. It would not take a great deal to push Red over the edge.
- She is something of glass cannon, in that while she can strike quickly and effectively, the combination of her spindly stature and her past injuries at the hands of the wolf means she isn't too resilient to damage.
Equipment:
WolfsBane - Red's Modified Woodaxe, she never goes anywhere without this imposing piece of weaponry. It has been re-enforced for use as an offensive weapon, its base being the same axe that the younger Red used to fend off the first attack of Big Bad, retrieved from the cottage after her escape from custody. Red can use the weapon to devastating effect.
7League Boots- Stolen from the regime at some point during her first few months of activity, these enchanted boots once were able to allow their wearers to take steps seven leagues in length, travelling great distances at huge speed. They have lost a great deal of their power as the years have gone by, but still allow for some useful tricks. By wearing them, they allow Red to move a lot faster than average, jump higher than she should be capable of, maintain traction more easily on steep surfaces and act as shock absorbers in drops from heights. As a result they can make her a great nuisance. They're far too large for her however, and are comparatively easily pulled off.
Background Story:
'Little Red' was a working member of the Resistance from an early age. From age six she was doing the work of a courier, taking vital messages from town out to her grandmother, the then leader of the movement, who worked from a remote house in Darkwood.
Little Red would disguise the messages in baskets of food and drink, and sneak them past the guards and out to the woodland. The system worked very well for a few years...that was until The Wolf discovered her grandmother's location and was sent out to..remove her. He broke into the woman's house and brutally murdered her, before disguising himself in her clothes and waiting in the house, hoping to discover the source of the messages.
Red arrived at the house, to what she thought was her grandmother, and handed over the basket. The began to become nervous though. Something seemed...wrong about her grandma. The eyes were a little...too big...the ears were larger than they should have been...and..those were not a human's teeth. It was only when she saw the blood seeping out form under the pantry door, and asked about the teeth, that the wolf threw off its disguise and lunged at her.
Red had broken into a panicked dash, desperate to escape, and rushed into the woods, the Wolf gaining very quickly behind her. Luckily for her, she ran past a partially fallen tree, where a woodcutter was at work. The man attempted to stop the beast, but was quite swiftly torn apart by him. Red, aware there was no way she could escape by running, grabbed the man's axe. A terrible fight ensued, Red was bitten repeatedly and badly, but was able to land a hit that severed three of the beast's toes and sent it back into the woods. Red staggered back into Page, alive, but terribly mauled, bleeding badly, and completely incoherent.
The Regime, upon hearing that an informant for the resistance had escaped the wolf, realized another immediate attempt on Red's life would raise for too much of a PR problem, make them look much too bad. They did not want people thinking that they set out to murder little girls.
So, instead, they set out to discredit her forever. Miss Loxx visited some of the citizens of Page and paid them very handsomely to give testimony that Red was a dangerous and unstable character with psychotic tendencies. Doctor Foster, an eminent physician from the neighbouring land of Rhyme was also brought in to give his 'educated opinion' on her, and after a little chat with Goldi, he came to the conclusion that Red was incurably deranged and had murdered the woodcutter, taken his axe, killed her grandmother, and any injuries had either been inflicted by herself, or by those she her targeted attempting to defend themselves.
Deemed a dangerous lunatic, the regime stated that it would be merciful towards Red, and would detain her for the rest of her years for the safety of the populous. They intended that this would keep her out of the way indefinitely. By then her face was well known among the populous as a famous murderer and axe-wielding maniac, so no-one would ever take her seriously again.
What they did not count on however, was that Red would one day escape custody and set out to wreak revenge upon the regime.
