[td] | Name: Oren Dariya Kovalenko Nickname: Oreo, The European, Little Miss Sunshine Age: 90 Gender: GENDER Species: Vampire Ethnicity: Caucasian, eastern european and jewish background. Height: 5'7 Weight: 125lbs Orientation: Asexual Occupation: Cryptobiologist Art: Commission by Punkypeggy on dA. |
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION Oren resembles a wiry, rather angular-looking young woman in her early twenties, a with high, noticable cheekbones and with rather distinct metallic eyes rimmed with a sort of natural darkness to them.. Her hair is very thick, grey black, and reach down to her shoulder blades. Oren is rarely seen without her long blue trenchcoat/duster and a pair of fingerless gloves. When working in her laboratory she tends to swap to the white lab coat, as it is treated to resist potentially hazardous substances that she will use. She gravitates towards practical clothing and tends to keep everything in fairly good condition as much as she can.
PERSONALITY Oren is, in one word, harsh. She tends to come across as unsympathetic towards others, and often quite rude to them along with it. This is due to the fact that she holds herself to a very high standard, and expects others to meet similar standards to earn any respect from her. These standards encompass a sort of ruthless self-discipline. She is strict on herself in matters of study, diet, exercise, and seeking help on any matter, and likes to be in control of those things. She is a caustic individual who is quite capable of offending others. Those she does have respect for are minimal, but she has no trouble admitting it when she does respect someone. She is a highly intelligent and logical individual, and is good at looking at a situation practically, and rarely panics regardless of the crisis, however her emotionally distant nature often means that her solutions can be seen as harsh, even unethical at times. She is a realist, but also extremely cynical, and tends to think the worst of others around her. She cannot stand the idea of losing independence in any form, as a result the prospect of disability and long term illness bothers her a lot more than the prospect of death does. It's partly due to her preoccupation with controlling her own life, and partly due to the fact that she doesn't really trust people in general, seeming to assume ineptitude or ulterior motives in things quite often.
PERSONAL HISTORY Oren was born in Budapest, the capital city of Hungary in the 1920's, a few years after the first world war. Hungary was in a state of political turmoil after the war, with groups killing each other and waves of attacks sweeping the nation. Oren never knew her mother, as the woman left not long after she was born. She was raised by her father, an ex-military man and decorated 'war hero' who carried the memories of the war and the trenches quite seriously. He was motivated by a goal to raise a 'strong' child, and the fact that Oren had been born a girl proved to be of little concern to him. Oren was raised very strictly. She worked around the house, studied hard, and learned how to take care of herself. If she got hurt or sick it was expected of her to deal with it rather than running to her father, and sentimentality in any fashion was not tolerated. At a young age she developed a fondness for one of the chickens they kept in the yard, treating it as a pet. Her father noticed this, and had Oren break its neck, pluck it and gut it for food. By the time Oren reached late adolescence, World War Two had begun. Hungary made an effort to remain neutral for some years, but eventually the Nazis moved in, and the 're-locations' started. Oren began going by her middle name, as her first was hebrew. She managed to avoid and lie her way through occupation comparatively unharmed...but it was 1945 and during the Siege of Budapest that her comparative luck ran out. When the soviet troops approached the city many young hungarian women had been drafted to build barriers, amidst shell fire and bitter cold. Oren was one of those roped into such a task. As the siege was lost, the victorious soviet troops, turned on the civilians of the city...especially the women. Oren never spoke of exactly what happened to her after the fall of the city, but it's clear enough that she would have been a potential target. It was during that time that Oren encountered Benjamin Cray, head of the Exsanguis clan, at the Red Army HQ in fact. Supposedly she was held there and some of the then-Exsanguis broke in, slaughtering soldiers and a good number of the civilian prisoners. Apparently Oren was spared that fate. Cray had always been a bit of a collector. He recruited those who caught his interest. It seemed that Oren, the twenty-one year old euromutt from an unimpressive background, managed to do something that caught his attention...as the next that was heard of Oren Kovalenko was that she was the newest Exsanguis recruit. During the next few decades, Oren was the definition of what the leaders wanted in an Exie. She killed without hesitation and yet had the wiliness and intellect not to kill gratuitously or obviously. She was instrumental in what was known as the 'London Cull' when a huge number of werewolves in the british capital were rounded up and wiped out. It wasn't until the 1980's that the vampire began to second guess herself regarding her attitude to life, and her addiction to the blood of a kill. Most of the clan only drank directly from live or recently dead victims, and her analytical mind showed her that by doing so it made them all more aggressive and sociopathic. She disliked the idea that her behaviour might be influenced by the blood she consumed, and the resolved to kick the habit...something that took her some weeks and a lot of difficulty. Now, while she continues to accept work, Oren no longer bites, and has taken up some more cerebral callings in that he is now an expert in cryptobiology, the science of supernatural. She has learned a lot about what makes other species tick, and has been conducting work on it. .
OTHER INFO The Exsanguis is a very old clan with its roots in the roman era. Their leader was supposedly turned by one of the first vampires, and as such they are both very focused on the superiority of their species, and concerned more with their ascendancy from this First, than they are with age, though age in their strain brings certain advantages. Oren was turned by Cray himself, making her a 'third generation ascendant' which is the highest level under the clan head, allowing her a degree of status in the community, though being turned by the clan head is not an exceptional thing. |
